At 1 Place Denfert-Rochereau, in the 14th Arrondisment, you will find the Catacombs of Paris. The Catacombs gather the remains of approximately six million Parisians, transferred at the end of the 18th century, beginning with fear of disease in the Cemetery of the Innocent Ones. Along a labyrinth of obscure galleries and narrow corridors , the visitor discovers the bones laid out in a "romantic-macabre" style. The Catacombs are a curious and, somewhat, gruesome site, though you'll not be alone in your interest, even Napoleon III toured the site with his son.
